2023 Mitsubishi ASX Compact SUV - First Look and Details Features

In Europe, the 2023 Mitsubishi ASX will be available in ICE, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid forms. More than ten years have passed since Mitsubishi debuted the first edition of the ASX compact SUV, and the company has officially unveiled the second generation. Were there any improvements made to the new Mitsubishi ASX? What is it?

Let's go back to the goods of the day.

Even though it bears the Mitsubishi name, the second-generation ASX is a rebadged Renault Captur that was first introduced more than three years ago.

Mitsubishi, however, has tweaked the ASX's front end in a way that hints at the company's signature Dynamic Shield grille. There is no denying the striking resemblance between the two automobiles.

Oddly enough, the 2023 ASX is physically smaller than the car it succeeds, which was first produced 12 years earlier. In comparison to the previous model, which was also 4228mm in length, 1797mm in width, and 1573mm in height, the new model is 4228mm in length, 1797mm in width, and 1573mm in height.

Mitsubishi Australia CEO Shaun Westcott recently assured the media that buyers are satisfied with the latest ASX models. This would indicate that Australia would not host the 2023 ASX.

Outwardly, Mitsubishi has modeled the engine choices that are standard on the Renault Captur. Two different gasoline engines are available for the lineup, including a 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 90 horsepower and a 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with two power outputs and 12-volt mild-hybrid technology. The powerplant comes with either 138 hp and a six-speed manual gearbox or 155 hp and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The basic hybrid has a 1.6-liter engine and two electric motors, while the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) has a 10.5-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery and can operate only on electricity. Mitsubishi has not yet released detailed fuel efficiency numbers for the ASX.

The ASX's up to 9.3-inch touchscreen is more sharp and clear than the existing car's 8.0-inch display, which is located inside the cabin. The vehicle's connectivity functions, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, are convenient. Modifiable interior illumination and different driving modes are two further examples of these honed touches.

An optional 10.25-inch digital driver display allows you to use the ASX's built-in navigation system, which has 3D mapping. 4.2-inch TFT screens will be sandwiched between analog dials in the base trims.

The back seat glides forward and backward to increase legroom or cargo capacity. The 2023 Mitsubishi ASX's trunk capacity in Europe is 332 liters to 401 liters, depending on the configuration, which is an increase over the current model's 392 liters.

Front automatic emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and bicycle recognition, cross-traffic detection (CTD), rear automatic emergency braking (RAEB), and lane-keep assist (LKA) across the board are just some of the new safety assist technologies available in the European version of the automobile. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-tracking, and automatic high lights will all come included in the top-tier ASX models.

When it debuted in 2010, the Mitsubishi ASX was among the first crossover vehicles. It takes its cues from the first-generation Nissan Qashqai, from which it borrows its off-roader styling and hatchback proportions. The current-generation Mitsubishi ASX is mechanically indistinguishable from the first vehicle, which went on sale in 2012 and received a cosmetic makeover in 2015 to make it seem more up-to-date.

The crossover industry has evolved significantly since the introduction of the ASX a decade ago. As a result of a plethora of new models from practically every automaker, the ASX is now at the bottom of the heap. Although they are more expensive than the ASX, class leaders such as the Peugeot 3008, Skoda Karoq, and SEAT Ateca provide far better value for the money.

Mitsubishi is one of the few manufacturers that provide a five-year warranty with an overall mileage restriction of 62,500 miles, which is lower than that of several competitors. Similarly, Hyundai provides five years of protection, but theirs has no mileage cap. Mitsubishi has set its warranty at 12,500 miles since that's the distance between scheduled maintenance for its vehicles.

In addition, Mitsubishi provides optional extended warranty protection in three tiers (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) for an additional fee. We also provide a 12-year guarantee against corrosion perforation.

Prices for the 2023 Mitsubishi ASX SUVs start at $24,990 for the base ASX ES model and rise to $34,490 for the top-tier ASX Exceed.

Even though it's a decade old by today's standards, the Mitsubishi ASX is still a top seller in Australia. The ASX outsold the Mazda CX-30 and came in second place in sales in Australia in 2021 in the compact SUV segment, behind the MG ZSrange.

Since it is uncertain if the ASX will continue in the future, Mitsubishi may go the route of launching a cheaper version of its current Eclipse Cross compact SUV to replace the ASX should it cease production.

I was wondering what your opinion on the brand new Mitsubishi ASX was. Is it a great purchase in your opinion? Please respond to this post with your views and opinions, and we will gladly join the conversation and respond to your comments.
